Becci Gowers
Director and Founder of IgniteYou

Becci started her dancing career back in 2005 and then qualified as a Dance Teacher in 2006 through the United Kingdom Alliance.  She was an original member of dance troupe Flava and had the amazing experience of getting through to the live Semi-Finals and performing in front of Simon Cowell on Britains Got Talent in 2008, after which they toured the world  performing and teaching.  She has worked with various police forces across the UK, including the Metropolitan Police and the Home Office tackling issues such as knife crime and anti social behaviour in high risk areas.   This is where she found my true passion in building peoples confidence and making them aware of their true potential.

Over the course of the last 15 years Becci has also been involved with many local and national organisations providing dance and movement confidence workshops for people with additional needs.

She has worked with organisations such as Mencap, Curnow School, Choices Day Services, Cornwall Down Syndrome Support Group, Cornwall Accessible Activity Program and The National Autistic Society.

She qualified in 2011 as a Zumba Instructor and Exercise To Music and since then has updated her Hip shop teachers qualification with United Dance Organisation. Becci also qualified with Paradance UK in 2018 with an Inclusive Dance Teacher certificate.

Kerry Raymond
Director, Co-ordinator and Administrator

I started dancing as a child. Later in life I attended classes at Pineapple Dance Studios and the Royal Academy of Dance.

I gained my teaching qualification with the International Dance Teachers Association in 2001.

For me, when growing up (well into my 30’s!!) I found the dance world elitist and it wasn’t for me – my body shape didn’t fit !

However, I rekindled my love for dance when I started working for disability charities in 2005 and from there my love for inclusive and accessible dance grew and flourished.

I had a little break in my career when my twins arrived and then started working in partnership with Becci in 2013. We developed an amazing dance project within a Cornish disability charity together – performed many dance flash mobs, regular dance socials and Arts Awards in Dance for Disabled Children & Young People.

I have joined the IgniteYou team to continue developing accessible dance and nutrition.

Shanna Dawes
Dance Instructor

Hey my name is Shanna and I’m a fun loving dance teacher In cornwall.

I have always had heavy influence within the community sector in my younger years and loved being able to help everyone no matter diverse backgrounds. From the age of 16 I’ve put all my energy into being the best teacher I can be and really loving all areas of the dance umbrella. In the April of 2015 I became part of the dance team FLAVA and become part of there community outreach project for bullying this was amazing to help so many children up and down the country, this then lead on to a teaching position within The Big Dance Company and where I am now a technical teacher for Classical ballet, contemporary and tap. I’ve been lucky enough to travel, teach and train internationally in Malaysia, South Africa, LA and more.

I’ve always had a strong interest in giving everyone the right to be equal and have always been so passionate about no matter of ability, age, gender dance is a universal language which we can all share and feel safe within.

When the opportunity to shadow and learn alongside Becci at Ignite You was presented I leapt at the chance to help make a difference and make people smile with inclusive dance session, although still learning I am very keen to embody inclusive sessions and further my teaching knowledge.

I’m so excited to be part of Ignite you team and help make people smile through movement and allowing everyone the right to be equal.
