What Is This Nutritional Therapy Stuff Anyway?!!

I get asked so many times ‘what is nutritional therapy?’ or ‘do you just help people lose weight?’ and so on.  There is so much conflicting information out there about what good nutrition is, the benefits you can have and alot of emphasis on what you shouldn’t have.  So I thought I would set the record straight on what nutritional therapy is all about.

I found a lovely way of explaining it from Nutritional Institute of Ireland which said ‘Nutritional Therapy is an evidence-based approach to maximising one’s health potential through individually formulated nutritional and lifestyle changes. Nutritional Therapy treats the body as a whole while seeking the root source of health concerns, rather than simply treating the symptoms.’

This sums it up in a couple of sentences.  I found other explainations that were too sciencey or confusing.  What we eat is literally what we are made of.  Every cell uses the nutrients you consume to do the job it is created to do.  If there is a lack in vital nutrients they will not function effectively and this leads to a body that shows symptoms and ill health.  That is why I am so passionate about nutritional therapy and it’s positive effects.  I see its power every week with clients and how good, healthy nutrition can transform someones life for the better.

The hard part of my job is that there is so much confusion around food and we live in a society that poor food is so freely available and also rammed down our throats by the media.  Alot of people only associate thinking about food with weight loss and looking a certain way when, in fact, it is critical to a healthy existence.

There is of course alot of other things that play part of optimal health such as genetics and lifestyle, but good nutrition is the building block of support for the body to function.

So there you have it, that is what Nutritional Therapy is all about.  I see people from all walks of life with all sorts of health issues or people wanting to be as healthy as they can be and live an optimal life.

If you have any more queries please do get in touch.  I love talking about nutrition and all things healthy and empowering!!!

I hope this helps and has inspired you with your own nutritional journey 🙂

    Hi Becci,
I found this really interesting as one who has studied food, nutrition etc and even advised others whilst battling to always follow my own advice! Anyhow, I was wondering whether you would be interested in giving a talk to the Hayle W.I. ladies? We are a group of 30 +/ladies with ages ranging from 30 something to 92 . We meet on the first Tuesday in the month in Hayle and we invite speakers on a whole variety of topics but we have never had anyone to talk about this really important issue. We can pay a fee and travelling expenses if required and you would have approximately 45 minutes to talk or even maybe give a food demo?? If you are interested please get in touch soon as we are meeting to put together our next year s programme on November 22nd. Many thanks.
